The study seeks to search for the tradition of Buddhism and to explore the cultural contact between India and Korea in early times.There has been a lack of a proper study with a scientific and systematic approach in the field and this study is an attempt in this directions. This study seeks to highlight the relations between Buddhist ideology and institutions and socio-economic mechanism in early India and Korea. It attempts to study in an inter-connected and systematic manner the transition of Buddhist ideas and the progress of its rituals in the context of its social basis. The work is based mainly on literary sources ranging from early Buddhist texts like Nikayas and Dhammapada to tantric texts and Samgukyusa and samguksagi.
